Little Crickets Ltd
January 2025

At Little Crickets Daycare, we embrace the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum,
incorporating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) throughout all areas of learning.
This document outlines our approach to teaching ICT and ensuring its safe and meaningful use in our
setting.
Early Learning Goals
In line with the Early Years Outcomes, the ICT learning objectives for children include:
ï‚· Understanding that various forms of technology are used in homes, schools, and other
settings.
ï‚· Choosing and using technology purposefully for specific tasks.
For children aged 30-60 months, developmental milestones include:
ï‚· Operating basic equipment.
ï‚· Understanding that computers can be used to access information.
ï‚· Successfully using simple computer programs.
ï‚· Engaging with age-appropriate software and applications.
Objectives for ICT Teaching
Our goals for ICT education at Little Crickets include:
1. Introducing ICT as an engaging and imaginative process, encouraging children to develop
initiative, creativity, reasoning, and problem-solving abilities.
2. Helping children understand the role of ICT in everyday life and see it as a valuable tool for
learning, communication, information access, and interacting with their environment.
3. Supporting both individual and group learning experiences with technology.
4. Promoting interest and awareness of ICT by displaying children’s ICT-enhanced work and
fostering a positive attitude among staff towards technology.
5. Providing opportunities to integrate ICT effectively across different areas of learning.
Health and Safety
To ensure the well-being of children when using ICT, we adhere to the following guidelines:
ï‚· Equipment is appropriately sized to suit children’s needs.
ï‚· Workstations are set up at the correct height, and screens are adjusted to reduce glare.
ï‚· Technology is positioned away from potential hazards, such as sand or water.
ï‚· Computer usage is limited to ten minutes per child per session and is always supervised by a
staff member.

The computer will be set to operate,,child safety mode,, restricting access exclusively to age--
appropriate educational content, such as Numberblocks and colouring activities designed to support
the development of hand-eye coordination. These activities are selected to ensure they are both
engaging and suitable for young children. The computer will be supervised at all times during use,
with access to the system controlled by a code. The device will be switched off when not in use to
ensure the safety and security of the children in the care environment.
Implementation
ï‚· ICT is integrated into daily activities and made available to children under staff supervision.
ï‚· Age-appropriate software and programs are selected to match the developmental stages
and interests of the children.
ï‚· Children’s accomplishments in ICT are celebrated and displayed throughout the nursery.
Review and Monitoring
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it aligns with current EYFS standards and continues to
meet the safety and developmental needs of the children.
